Happy New Year!

I woke up this morning to find there was a surprise revealing of the Celtic solstice mystery quilt.  I have not  had time to sew today  but I did manage to sneak up to my studio for a few minutes and lay out some blocks. I think it will be gorgeous.

here the rows have been assembled in one direction and now have to be joined going across and then on the the borders.  I am making progress!

Clue #5 mystery quilt.

This has been a very busy week, but I am finding  little bits of time to work on my  clues between the grandkids naps and bedtime.

Clue#4

Here we are already 4 weeks down the road on our mystery quilt.  What fun and a challenge it has been to keep up.  I still have a few 4 patches to finish and some half square triangles to fix,  but other than that I am in pretty good shape.

Clue #3

Clue # 3

I was still trying to catch up with Clue #2 so I am a bit delayed in the process.  I worked all weekend on those sweet little Chevrons until I was too tired to sew the sections together at 11:30 Sunday evening.   So Monday after work that step will be completed and I am on to Clue #3.  Thank you, Thank you, Bonnie for making Clue #3 a little less labor intensive.  We sure have made a lot of little blocks, I can't wait to see them all put together. 

Clue #2 Celtic solstice mystery

So clue # 2 came out on Friday and my fabric that I ordered will not arrive until tomorrow. All I could do was do a few practice blocks to see what the block would look like.  So here it is and it looks like I will be busy this week getting my homework done. 

I don't know about you but it is looking very much like a border unit to me.

Celtic Solstice clue number #1

So with Thanksgiving behind us now it is Quilt mystery time with Bonnie Hunter.  Yes all year we quilters await the unveiling

of the first clue the day after Thanksgiving.   I am happy to report that I have been able to spend most of my weekend sewing up a storm of clues.  388 to be exact.  I think I have a few extra in there for good measure.  I kept losing track so in the end I may have a few more than the 380!   I decided to use different colors than the blue and orange that Bonnie used, I have pink and purple for this clue. Next week I will need to decide what other 2 colors I may want to add.  I am planning on the green but not sure yet about the final color.

Here are a few of my recent projects that I have been busy with the last few months.  I have had many distractions with a new grand baby and visits out of town.  And that little grandbaby just came a few weeks early and her quilt is not even finished.  Oh My, better get sewing.

It has been awhile

It seems I am way overdue in updating my blog.  What have I been doing with my quilting.  Well, unfortunately I have been making comfort quilts for my best quilting buddy who past away on May the 4th from Alzheimer's.  It is such a devastating disease.  Betty became quite ill and bedridden around the end of March.  I decided that she needed a quilt to comfort and cover her with love from all of her quilting friends from around the state.  So, I put out some calls, emails and posts asking for friendship star blocks to be made and signed into a quilt.  Originally, I was going to be making the quilt this past Memorial Day weekend with some quilting friends at camp St. Christopher, in beautiful Seabrook Island.  Well, that plan changed when it was apparent that Betty would not live that long and the quilt was then kicked into high gear to be finished before she passed.  I am happy to report that the quilt was laid over her on May the 1st, and she passed on the evening of May the 4th.  Whether she actually knew that the quilt was on her and, for her or not I do not know, but I like to think that she did.  Any way, here is a picture of the quilt and instead of making one for Betty at retreat we made one for her husband Ed.  I only made one of the blocks, but will  have the job of doing the quilting, soon.  Will post pictures of that one later as to not spoil the surprise.

Easy Street mystery finally finished.

Hi all, well it is only mid February and I have finished my Easy Street Christmas quilt.  I really like how it turned out and can't wait till next year to do Bonnies next mystery.  Hope the picture will upload.  Well darn it isnt wanting to go!!  will have to try from my home computer. 

Easy Street Finale!!

The mystery has now been solved!  After 8 clues and over a month of hard work we are ready to show off our hard work.  I am posting two pictures one of my quilt top and one of my sister in Vermont's quilt top. She doesn't have a blog to show her quilt, so I am posting it here with mine.  It is amazing how different they all look with everyones fabric selections.  Ann started way late and actually caught up and has passed me to finish ahead of me.  Okay, that is because I have an away from home job and can only sew on weekends and evenings.  You can probably tell we are not at all competitive siblings  :)

Easy Street #4

So hasn't this been a true Easy Street so far?  I have all my new geese assembled and sewn into the 3 1/2 inch squares and ready for the next clue.  I will be cutting up my green squares during the week as time permits.  This is just the best ever diversion from all the craziness that is going on in the world and during the hustle and bustle of the holidays.  Friday  night I was glued to the tv watching the school shooting news unfold and feeling worse and worse as the night went on. Finally, I just clicked off the tv and said, watching this is not going to change a thing and I need to get my mind onto more pleasant things right now. So I went up to my studio and started my clue #4 and before I knew it, I had them all done.  So thank you Bonnie for the much needed outlet from the day.  Here is a picture of my design that I played with this afternoon with some of the blocks.  What a fun way to design with these little units while we wait to see what the next clue will be.  It would be fun to see how many different designs we could come up with, I am sure the possibilities are endless.  Enjoy!

Angel Advent Calendars

I am getting moving on my Christmas list, A little late but my Advent Calendars are now quilted and ready to take off the frame and bind.  Hoping to get them done this week to mail off to the kids. well the picture won't upload so I will  have to try later from my other computer.  ugh!!

Easy Street Clue #3

What fun little blocks these were and only 64 units to make this time.  I zipped right through them and will now have to wait for next weeks clue!  Happy Quilting Everyone.  It is my first time also using the Easy Angle Ruler and the Companion Ruler and I am really liking how accurate they are and no wasting fabric either.  I know we quilters love not wasting any fabric so they are a very big hit with me.

Easy Street Clue #2

Although I have not finished all of my flying geese units, I did make a few and played with them to see how my colors look together.  Wow is this ever going to be pretty, not matter how the mystery turns out if you like your fabrics and colors it will be a winner.  Here is a picture of the block I made using the units we have made so far!!  Very Pretty I think. thanks Bonnie

This is Bonnies Blog where she posts her Mystery Quilt Clues and showcase of her followers work in progress..  I have just started my mystery quilt and will be posting pictures later tonight when I finish the first clue.  Every friday from now until around New Years there will be a new clue to work on.  Come join in the fun it isn't too late to start.  Or you can print the clues and save them for after the holdiay rush when you aren't quite so busy!!  I finished my clues last night, but forgot to get  a picture.  They are still in a pile waiting to be ironed and separated from the long kite string.  194 4 patch blocks makes a very long kite tail!  LOL  

Fallon's quilt

I finally have finished Fallon's quilt.  She is 8 months old already, this is the second quilt that I have made her so I am allowed a little more time on the second one.  well it seems only half of it wants to upload, will have to try again later.  Ugh!

The Quilt show is over so now back to work on my neverending list of gift quilts.

So, I recieved and honorable mention ribbon on my Maasia woman quilt at our Cobblestone 2012 quilt show. It was a wonderful show as usual and now 2 more years to get ready for the next one.
I hope to have more quilts to exhibit in 2014. For all the quilting I have done over the last 2 years I only had 2 to enter.

Where are we again!! Christmas is over the New Year is off and racing! It is already Mid February!!

Our guild Quilt show is now less than a month away and I find myself once again worrying about having my entries ready for the show. I sure am glad that I went light on entries this year as life is complicated, as usual and there is never as much time as we think there will be to get it all done.
My last posting the african woman still looks exactly as it did when I brought it home and it is entered so hopefully very soon I will have pictures of the finished project ready for our 2012 show
I have also entered my asian themed quilt that was made for my son and daughter in law and they are lending it back to put in the show. Although I know that it is not a perfect quilt and probably won't win awards, it is a very different interesting quilt and I love the oppurtunity to enter it for all to see. Wish me luck with getting it all done and ready!
